The Mystery of Silk Fabric and the Silk Trains

Connie Rose of Prairie Piecegoods

Silk is one of our favorite fabrics.  It comes in many textures from smooth and sheer to the heavy and nubby silks for suits.  Connie Rose from Prairie Piecegoods, one of the Omaha/Council Bluffs area independent fabric stores, will tell us about the history of silk fabrics and the silk trains.  She will be bringing pieces of silk from her collection to show how this natural fiber takes many forms.

Connie will present useful information regarding how to determine if a piece of fabric or a garment is really silk.  If you have a piece you are unsure of, bring it along and Connie will help determine if you have the “real thing.”

Chapter Programs and Events:

 Saturday * March 20th * 1:30 pm *

Denise Stahl will discussing doll-making and spark our imagination with her creations. Her is her story: "

I have been sewing for about 30 years and started making primitive country cloth dolls about 17 years ago, but once I joined a cloth art doll club in 2002 a whole new world of creative expression opened up to me. My love of sewing and working with fabric, trims, buttons and beads all came together and I have never looked back. Collecting for my dolls is a great excuse to add to my fabric stash too!

 Thursday * May 20th * 6:30 p.m.

Liana Sandin, a member of the Lincoln Sewing Guild, will share the concept of Wardrobing and Sewing with a Plan.  She may also treat us to her creative approach to redecorating shoes as published in the Threads Magazine, August/September 2009 issue. Among her blogs she writes the blog:  http://sewintriguing.blogspot.com/
